Heidi McKenzie suddenly became a paraplegic in a car accident just as her adult life was beginning. Fast-forward nine years and she hasn’t missed a beat. In fact, some might say Heidi is rolling into her destiny at full tilt!

Today, Heidi serves as a board member for both Build Inclusion, Inc. and the Kentucky Congress on Spinal Cord Injury (KCSCI); works part time at her family’s business; mentors new spinal cord injury patients at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital/Easter Seals of the Bluegrass; runs her upstart business “Alter UR Ego”; and still finds time to inspire people by speaking to Girl Scouts, students and adaptive sports athletes, among others. She is a former Ms Wheelchair Kentucky (2012) and a member of Kentucky Appalachian Rural Rehabilitation Network (KARRN).

Heidi earned a bachelor’s degree in small business management from Morehead State University. Her business, Alter UR Ego, was featured on Yahoo! News, Mashable, Huffington Post, Fox News and other news and social media sites around the globe.

“Build Inclusion is an organization whose mission is a natural fit with my role as an advocate for individuals with disabilities. Being a paraplegic describes me, it doesn’t define who I am and I certainly don’t let it limit me!”
