Ask Shelley Lane to describe herself and you’ll get a cheerful response with words like “resilient” and “determined” and “active.” These will be communicated through a communication device since Shelley was born with cerebral palsy and is non-verbal. She uses a power chair for mobility and employs an aid on most days.

Her friends and family will testify that her personal adjectives are accurate. Shelley has volunteered at God’s Pantry Food Bank and Power Ministries Camps. Currently, she volunteers at the Baptist Hospital Gift Shop in an administrative role, a position she has held for ten years. Shelley is a beloved aunt, enjoys hanging out at the mall with her friends, and devotes herself to cheering on Ohio State at any opportunity. She also happens to be a powerful self advocate.

Shelley became involved with Build Inclusion, Inc. by volunteering for its AIM! advocacy + inclusion on a mission disability education program and now serves on the board of directors.

I love sharing my life with others! If someone is encouraged because of something I said or did, then I have lived out my personal mission. I thank God for each new day’s experiences!
